It is very convenient to have mobile storages such as USB storages or floppy disks to transfer files between your home and computer labs, but there are other faster and cheaper alternatives. If you have internet connection in your home, you can use internet storages as temporary liaisons between home and computer labs. Typical internet storages include MSN space, some free homepage hosting services, or web page based storages.

持有USB存储或者软盘对于在家里和计算机房之间传输文件来说十分方便，但是其他的替代方案更加快捷和便宜。如果你的家里有因特网连接。那么你可以用在线存储来做家里和计算机房之间的桥梁。典型的在线存储方式包括MSN空间、一些免费个人主页主机服务或者基于访问网页的方式。

 The fastest internet storage on Microsoft Windows is the My Web Sites on MSN folder in the “My Network Places” folder. It is built in most computer lab computers. If you not have it in your home computer, you can use the Add Network Place Wizard command of My Network Places to add a short cut to My Web Sites on MSN.

 If the My Web Sites on MSN folder is present, you can access it from any software application with file dialog capability, such as Notepad or Microsoft Word. For example, on the File menu of Microsoft Word, click Open, Save or Save As. In the open or save file dialog box, click My Network Places. Under My Network Places, click My Web Sites on MSN, and then click Open, as the following figures showed:

If you are not signed in with your Microsoft Passport account, you are prompted to sign in. In the Sign In dialog box, type your Passport sign-in name in the Sign-in name box. In the Password box, type your Passport password, click to select the “Automatically sign me in on this computer” check box if you are using your private computer, and then click OK.

如果你没有登录到Microsoft Passport，那么你会被提示需要登录。在登录对话框中的登录名文本框键入你的Passport名称，在密码框中键入你的Passport密码，如果你在使用你的私有计算机，选中“自动登录此计算机”复选框，然后点击确定。

 If you do not have a Passport account (Hotmail and MSN email accounts automatically become Passport accounts), you are prompted to create a free one. You can get a free hotmail account at http://www.hotmiail.com, or use an e-mail address you already have as the login name of your new Passport account.

After signed in to MSN, you can open the desired folder to open or save your files. You can also create one if necessary.

Note: you can not save files into the root folder or the root folder of a group. Instead, you need to save to the files directory of a group, such as the “Documents” folder in the “My Web Documents” group.

If you are using a public computer, you may need to prevent unauthorized accessing to your documents after you leave it. To accomplish this, you need first close all applications, open a web browser, go to http://www.msn.com and click the Sign in link, and then click the Sign out link.

In case you want to manage the files in the My Web Sites on MSN folder, you can try to access it through Windows Explorer. First, open the Windows Explorer by double clicking the “My Computer” icon on your Windows desktop, then open My Network places, If the My Web Sites on MSN folder is listed, sign in with a Microsoft Passport account, and use it as if it is a local folder. After finished working with the My Web Sites on MSN folder, remember to sign out from http://www.msn.com .

If the My Web Sites on MSN folder is not available in the My Network places folder, you can still access through a web browser such as Internet Explorer. Open http://www.msn.com/, and click the “Sign In” link to sign in. After that, go to http://groups.msn.com, and click the “My Storage Info” link. Your document will be displayed in a list. You can also delete your files by selecting files and clicking the “Delete Select Files” link.

如果 MSN中的我的网站文件夹不在网上邻居中，你仍旧可以通过一个网页浏览器来访问它，举例来说，用Internet Explorer。打开Open http://www.msn.com/，点击登入链接来登录，之后访问http://groups.msn.com，点击我的存储信息，你的文档将会显示在网页上的列表中。你也可以选中文件之后点击删除选中文件链接来删除文件。

Note: You can not add files to your storage here. Uploading files is a little more complicated. You can click the “create a group” link on http://groups.msn.com, and then follow the instructions on the web page to create a group, and then create a “Documents Folder” page in it. This page is where you upload your files.

Currently, Microsoft offers only 3M of free storage on the MSN Web site for each Passport customer. Additional storage can be purchased through MSN Hotmail Plus for a low yearly fee. However, there are many ways to get larger free space, the FTP service of personal homepage hosting services, for example. You can apply for an account of free personal homepage hosting services that support FTP access such as http://www.lycos.com, and then type ftp://username:password@hostserver to access their FTP hosts as if they are local folders. The difference is that you need to use a local folder as a liaison, save to it or copy files from ftp host to it first, because usually you can not access it in the file dialogs. To open an FTP host in Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer, type the FTP address in the address bar, type your account name and password, and then treat it as a local folder. However, although hosting services providers usually offer larger spaces, but they are not always happy when you don’t use it for your homepage, and sometimes they may eject some files. In addition, accessing via FTP is also a little slower then the My Web Sites on MSN folder, but it is still a good alternative.

The most common and perhaps the slowest internet storages are web page based storages, such as huge email inbox, photo and file storages. For example, Yahoo Email (http://mail.yahoo.com ) offer 2G inbox, Yahoo! Briefcase (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/) offers 30M free space, and Yahoo! Photos (http://photos.yahoo.com/) offers unlimited storage for JPEG photo files. The only requirements of these Yahoo! services are a free Yahoo ID and a web browser. However, they are also much slower then the FTP services, because the only way to access them is through web pages, which require many more human interactions.

Note: some free storage service providers may stop their services if you violate their rules, or empty your storage if you don’t use them for a long time. Keep an eye on their terms of services, and do not exploit their services.

As mentioned before, internet storage can be very handy if you have internet access in your home. You can simply save your files in your home, and open it from your computer lab, or vise visa. Although the My Web Sites on MSN folder is the fastest among them, sometimes you may still need to use the FTP services and web page based storages because space shortage. Use them will save your time and expense on USB storage or floppy disks.

综上所述，在你家中有因特网访问时在线存储可能很有用处。你可以在家里保存文件，然后在计算机房打开它，或者反之。虽然MSN中的我的网站文件夹是最快捷的，但是有时你仍需使用FTP服务和基于网页的在线存储服务来避免空间紧缺。使用它们可以节省你使用USB设备或者软盘的时间和金钱。
